Norway in a Nutshell
This is the perfect way to tour Norway. It's an incredibly easy way to get the most out of your trip. So what is it exactly? You buy an itinerary from your city of choice (Oslo, Bergen, or Voss). And you will travel by train, bus, boat and see some of the most spectacular sights in the country. And at the end, you are returned to your starting city. You can also choose to go one way if you prefer. Check out the path of travel.
How does it work?
You buy the tickets online in advance. Just pick your starting and ending city and how many days you want to travel. Print out your confirmation and bring it with you to the train station. You have to grab your packet of tickets in advance of the excursion starting. Once you have your packet of tickets, you are all set and ready to go!
It's not a traditional tour. You won't even know who else is on the tour with you. You basically have a series of tickets for various transportation. You have to get yourself to each location on time and there is no one directing you. Don't worry! You won't mess it up!
What was my schedule?
I chose to do a two day trip starting in Oslo. The train ride took me from Oslo to Bergen, which was beautiful. Make sure you have at least one day of your train ride during daylight. I arrived in Bergen in the afternoon. This gave me a half day and the evening in Bergen. The next day I got on a boat in Gudvangen that traveled through the fjords and ended in Flam. From there, I caught the famous Flam railway for a slightly scary, but also incredibly beautiful ride. To end the day, I caught my final train back to Oslo.
Review in a nutshell
I was in Norway for just 4 days, so this was a great way to squeeze in as much as possible during that time. It's one of the most popular tours for a reason. It's convenient, easy and the sites will not disapoint!
