Kusadasi
Kusadasi was one of the port stops on the Greek Island cruise. It was the best surprise along the way for me because I had no expectations and I was blown away. Most visitors who come by this port are here to see the historical site of Ephesus. These magnificent ruins are home of the famous Library of Celsus and even if you're the guy who failed history class, you'll find this worth seeing. We were lucky enough to enjoy a private dinner and concert in this space. The sunset among the archeological site was pure magic.
What else should you do in Kusadasi?
Ladies Beach- This is a busy sandy beach with a walkable boardwalk. The beach is a mixture of bikinis, burqas, and everything in between. It's not a clash of society, it's more of a harmony of culture.
Shop at the Bazaar- This was my favorite day time activity. Walk through the shopping areas and check out the local goods. It's a never ending maze of quality goods and knock offs.
The shopkeepers are some of the most aggressive sales people you'll ever meet, but I stopped to get to know some of them and they had fascinating stories. One shopkeeper made me a cup of tea and we sat outside his shop as people passed by. His father opened the store and then passed it on to him. He told me how the reputation of violence in Turkey has decreased tourism and really hurt the economy and in particular his shop. He was muslim, but doesn't practice regularly. It was the best tea with a stranger I've ever had.
