Hi.

Welcome to The Mark of Joy. I document my adventures in travel, and capture the joy I find.

The joy is in the connection

The joy is in the connection

Panama is most well known as the home of the Panama Canal, the man-made connection of the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. Even with its fairly small size as a country (The US is about 130 times its size), it really does pack a punch as far as history, culture, food and biodiversity. We spent a week touring around Panama City and the Pearl Islands, but there was so much more to see.

Panama is one of those places that can really offer any type of experience you want. It has jungle, exotic beaches, history and museums, backpacking destinations, upscale restaurants and resorts, golfing, boating, hiking. I wish we could have done more and seen more. We did come away from Panama with a really strong sense of the history and the evolution of the country we see today. This small country is so critical to the connection of the rest of the world in more ways than one. We so easily forget how intertwined our history is with the rest of the world. And the same goes for many other countries. We really are more connected than we may think.
